We strongly suggest that all work be on A2 paper,

allowing you to create a visible presentation and combine elements.

Remember that the most important thing to illustrate

Is your approach to the institution as a whole...

And then, having established that can you zoom in

To the details...

There is no definitive list of drawing requirements...

But it would seem good to make the following available...:

- Drawings for bed, wall and bar (ordered as three pieces of work)

- A sheet with reference to your Masterplan group phase

(making reference to ideas and ‘themes’ that you adopted)

- A sheet making reference to your mapping exercises.

- A sheet with reference (image, diagram...TEXT and no round windows...!)

To your ‘concept’, explaining what you thought was particularly important to you.

- A plan of the Theotokos Foundation at 1:200 (on an A2 sheet)

- A section (at least) at 1:100 showing your invasion vocabulary and methodology...

- A plan (potentially) showing how you invade the Theodokos with your concept...

Which can be combined with image, diagram etc

- sketches or similar which illustrate your interventions (invasion).

(ps. Your portfolio, including all projects must be handed in five working days

After the Final Presentation, ie. Feb. 1^st at reception by 12.00 noon.

This is absolute and there can be NO DELAYS...)

...(and do not forget: ‘God is (still) in the Detail’ Mies van der Rohe)...

We have reached the final chapter...

And we must now attach and transform our ideas to date according to the larger picture, in relevance to the whole, the Theotokos Foundation as an institution (much as we loathe to use the word) and a building.

You must, in effect and as individuals create a narrative (story) scenario (or series of scenarios) for the place as a whole.

This we suggest might be assisted through the following steps and exercises.

one: sit down and establish, with reference to your ‘bed’, ‘wall’, ‘bar’ and ‘masterplan’ work and ideas what the main idea or direction of your project is to be. note: it is often useful to create some manner of illustration for this, whether it be a collage, an image, a sketch, a diagram or even just a statement...this is what we shall call your concept, and it should be introduced into your design at all levels, should act as a guide in all decisions and moments of indecision.

two: using photographs from our visits and with an awareness of what your ‘concep(s)’ is/are sketch or superimpose your proposal on those tangible images....

three: take the three elements we already have (‘bed’, ‘wall’ and ‘bar’) and test them against the reality of the plans and sections (which we finally have!). consider how context or concept might alter these...or how they might effect each other...or be effected by other factors and considerations. In effect bring them into the building and see what changes might be made to the one or the other.

four: introduce the ‘infamous’ Fourth Element! This we see as another opportunity to invade the premises...but with an awareness of what your wider idea (concept) is. This could be anything from Hannah’s dogs to a change of colours and textures. It might be about one of the many themes we’ve been looking at...or it might be something of your own (Christina’s library for example)...but it should be something that (generally) attempts to add another dimension to the lives of inhabitants and staff.

Bring as much of this as you can to the University on Wednesday (5-9pm) so that we can have as wide and complete a discussion as possible.

Your ‘brief’ is to simply make the Theotokos Foundation a better place for these people to be in. This can involve the issues they offered us, of privacy and ‘anti-institutionalisation’ (...word not in dictionary). It can also deal with many of the aspects that we have been talking about concerning ‘depth diagrams’, public and private, charging spaces, small and large scale, the relationship to the outside...etc.

The final product should be a clear description of strategy and design for your proposal for the Theotokos Foundation.
